Everyone's setups will look a bit different... and that okay!

Based on your long term goals, number of birds, space available and any building restrictions you will be able to determine the best set up for you and your flock/covey. 

We raise multiple types of quail and have breeding pairs within those groups so our set up is a bit different than a homesteader may wish to have.  For most homesteaders or families looking to have a few quail as egg producing pets a small coop or hutch would suit those needs and be easily accessed and maintained. We have seen a wide variety of setups over the time we have been raising birds. We have included some photos below of set ups for inspiration

With ANY set up predator proofing is an ESSENTIAL part of the set up. We suggest tight wire mesh to be placed under the coop and if at all possible dug down into the ground to help deter those creatures that would like to dig around the coop /aviary space to look for entry points. This wire mesh could be continued upwards to create the walls of the aviary area to provide added protection compared to wider or softer mesh. As quail like to fly / spook vertically the area should have the top enclosed.

Having access to outdoor space is a nice option if available to allow the birds to exhibit more of their natural behaviours including foraging. In the event this is not available to you and you are restricted to an enclosed hutch be sure there is ample air circulation and the ability to include natural light.
